Report on Air Pollution by Ozone Across Europe | 11 Mar 2010

The European Environment Agency (EEA) has published a technical report on air pollution by ozone across Europe during summer 2009.

The report gives and overview of ground level ozone concentrations between April and September 2009, providing a comparison with the years since 1997.

It reveals that ozone levels during summer 2009 were as low as during summer 2008 and according to several indicators were among the lowest since reporting of Europe-wide data commenced in 1997.

It claims this was possible because ozone formation is also influenced by other meteorological conditions and by the chemical composition of the atmosphere.

In Europe, the general observation was that the peak ozone concentrations decrease was very likely to be attributable to reductions in anthropogenic ozone precursor gas emissions.
