Air Quality and Climate Change
City landscape by Tim Haynes
Good air quality is essential for our health, quality of life and the environment. Air becomes polluted when it contains substances which can have a harmful effect on the health of people, animals and vegetation. The main causes of air pollution include transport, domestic combustion and industrial processes.
Our Air Quality and Climate Change work is aimed at promoting integrated policies and practices that reduce the negative effects on health and the environment of both air pollution and greenhouse gases.
New Biomass and Air Quality Guidance
Environmental Protection UK, in partnership with LACORS, have published new Biomass and Air Quality Guidance for local authorities in England and Wales, aimed at providing local authorities with information and tools to help them manage the air quality effects of biomass combustion in their area. The guidance includes a main guidance document, an information leaflet for developers, and accompanying tools. A limited number of printed versions of the main guidance document are also available.
