Air Quality and Climate Change
City landscape by Tim Haynes
Good air quality is essential for our health, quality of life and the environment. Air becomes polluted when it contains substances which can have a harmful effect on the health of people, animals and vegetation. The main causes of air pollution include transport, domestic combustion and industrial processes.
Our new Air Quality and Climate Change Guidance for Local Authorities is now available
Our Air Quality and Climate Change work is aimed at promoting integrated policies and practices that reduce the negative effects on health and the environment of both air pollution and greenhouse gases.
Development Control: Planning for Air Quality – 2010 Update
Environmental Protection UK has updated the popular guidance 'Development Control: Planning for Air Quality' for 2010. The document provides guidance to help ensure that air quality is properly accounted for in the development control process.
The update represents a significant rewrite to cover changes to the air quality management and planning processes since the last update in 2006, and takes account of a number of new documents issued since the previous version, including the 2007 Air Quality Strategy. A more detailed description of changes to the guidance over the previous version can be found in the Executive Summary.
The guidance can be downloaded from the link below:
