IUAPPA

Environmental Protection UK is a founder member of the International Union of Air Pollution Prevention and Environmental Protection Associations (IUAPPA). We have played a key role in the development of IUAPPA since its founding in 1964 and currently provide its secretariat support.

IUAPPA represents environmental protection specialists across the private, public and voluntary sectors in over 35 countries throughout the world who are working to resolve air pollution problems on a global level.

A non-political and non-denominational organisation, IUAPPA's mission is to promote progress in the prevention and control of air pollution; the wider protection of the environment and the adoption of sustainable development, by promotion of scientific understanding, the development of skills and techniques, and the application of relevant and effective policies at national and international level.

World Clean Air and Environmental Protection Congress

Held every three years, the IUAPPA World Clean Air and Environmental Protection Congress is the leading international gathering of air pollution specialists. It is hosted by IUAPPA member organisations in rotation, with care being taken to schedule meetings in different areas of the world.

The most recent Congress took place in Brisbane on 9-13 September 2007. The theme was "Clean Air Partnerships: Coming Together for the Future". Further details are available at www.iuappa2007.com The next congress will be held in Vancover in 2010.

Programmes

Work on the long range transport of air pollution is being taken forward under the auspices of the Global Atmospheric Pollution Forum, established in 2004 by IUAPPA and the Stockholm Environment Institute. GAPF aims to support co-operation and development of common practice among scientific and policy networks concerned with the abatement of air pollution on the regional scale. IUAPPA has also initiated a series of seminars on transport and air quality in mega-cities. This aims to promote exchange on experience, information and knowledge in practical aspects of urban air quality management, and in particular the role of transport between cities at different stages of urbanisation and development.
