Biomass and Air Quality Guidance for Scottish Local Authorities
Environmental Protection UK has produced a draft Biomass and Air Quality guidance document for Scottish local authorities. The document has been designed to give local authority officers information on the policy background to biomass, climate change and air quality, details of the technology used in biomass plant and their regulation, and finally advice on the management and mitigation of biomass emissions.
The guidance is open for consultation until Friday 13 August 2010.
We have not set any formal consultation questions, and instead invite views on the accuracy of the background information, the validity of the procedures suggested and any omissions from the current document.

Biomass and Air Quality Guidance for Local Authorities (England and Wales)
Environmental Protection UK and LACORS are pleased to announce the release of guidance for local authorities on biomass and air quality. This finalised guidance supersedes drafts released for consultation during April 2009.
The guidance provides background material on the issues involved, and details procedures for assessing and managing the effects of biomass on air quality – specifically nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and particulates (PM10 and PM2.5). The document covers England and Wales only at present. Environmental Protection UK's Scottish division intend to produce an amended version of the guidance to cover Scotland, and will consult on this at a later date.
