Government Seeks Views on Environment Policy | 26 Jul 2010

Defra is seeking views on England's environmental policy ahead of the publication of its first environmental White Paper for 20 years.

Secretary of State Caroline Spelman launched a discussion document - 'An invitation to shape the Nature of England' - earlier today and called for "everyone, from bird watchers to big business" to submit their comments.

Responses will be used to shape the Natural England White Paper, which is due to be published by spring 2011.

Speaking at the launch, Spelman said: "We want everyone to contribute their views on the natural environment – whether they're concerned at the plight of the songbirds in their garden, the quality of air in their town, flooding problems worsened by people paving over their gardens or the fate of our wider countryside.

"This discussion document will allow everyone to shape the White Paper, in a Big Society approach to policy making so that together we can aim to halt this decline and recognise that nature is our ultimate producer and supplier."

All comments should be received by 30 October 2010.
