Ambient Noise Committee

Our National Noise Committee coordinates our noise policy work and brings together local authorities, consultants, academics, industry, regulators and government officials. Members are volunteers and either represent one of our ten divisions or are co-opted based on their experience and expertise. The Committee is currently divided into two interest groups – the Ambient Noise Committee and the Neighbourhood Noise and Nuisance Committee, which both meet twice a year. Both groups act as forums for members to exchange information, debate issues and steer Environmental Protection UK's policy.

The Ambient Noise Committee looks at the problems of environmental noise and its impact - transport, industry, ports, the effects of this noise on people and the identification and preservation of existing quiet areas.

Our aim of promoting integrated policies and practices that encourage the effective management and control of noise, is delivered through the work of the National Noise Committee.

The Committee is chaired by John Hinton of Birmingham City Council and coordinated by Mary Stevens. The vice chair is Tim Clarke of Bristol City Council. If you would like to view minutes from the Committe Meetings please contact Mary Stevens.
