120th Anniversary Celebration
2018 marks the 120th anniversary of the founding of the oldest environmental organisation in the UK, and possibly the world, Environmental Protection UK. This is being marked by a reception at the Guildhall. London, courtesy of the Corporation of London, on 10 September 2018. Speakers include our president, Lord Larry Whitty, Professor Stephen Holgate, and Professor Jim Longhurst. This event is invite only, please contact us for more information.
Since its formation in 1898, Environmental Protection UK has been instrumental is key environmental movements, legislation, and policies, playing a key role in Victorian smoke abatement, the 1956 Clean Air Act, Part IV of the Environment Act, and more recent legislation and policies. Since the 1960s we have widened our remit to include noise and land pollution and have helped to influence policy in these areas, especially with Noise Action Week. On this 120th anniversary, we take the opportunity to look back at our achievements and, most importantly, forward to set out our priorities for the future.
Environmental Protection UK is a charity where most members are environmental experts. It works as a critical friend to governments and decision makers, and supports the work of these, local authorities, academia and the private sector, through lobbying, expert advice and guidance.
